If you enjoy photography that details all the wonderful aspects of Detroit from the architecture to the people, culture and events, then you will no doubt love the work of photographer and filmaker Jack P. Johnson, check it out here.
Liz Frankland has been when of my favorite painters for years, and her work only gets stronger as time goes on. Liquid and fluid, her brush strokes appear so bold and effortless as to almost seem carefree. Most painters would give their right hand to be able to create work like this. Yet the images are always solid and vivid, leaving the viewer feeling transported into the languid narratives. Many of the paintings are done from photo reference, but the experience is always much richer than that which can be conveyed from even the most sentimental of photographs. One of my favorite artists in the city. Check out her website here.
553 East Jefferson Avenue, known these days as simply The Beaubien House. This was the original house on the Beaubien Ribbon Farm from the earliest days of the City of Detroit according to the National Register of Historic Places.
