Back in 1985 I was in a punk rock band called Babysledge. 1985 was a crazy time in the city, and there were a number of places that popped up with live punk shows. The first show they played was at the Falcon Lounge (now a CVS I think) a bowling alley bar, at Van Dyke and Outer Drive.
I left the band after it really got going, and the guys went on to play quite regularly at places like The Hungry Brain.
( I wrote a good part of the original set, including “Lizzie Borden” and “Mutilation” )
The Hungry Brain was in the former Salvation Army Store in Delray on West Jefferson and Dearborn Street, right next to Zug Island. Yeah – if our mommies knew where we were playing on weekends – heh.
I see the Iron Coffin bike club is still there, hahaha !
Parking was in the sketchy field across the street.
Another hot spot for underground punk shows at this time was the Graystone Hall on Michigan Avenue.
The Graystone Hall (not to be confused with the Graystone Ballroom) is now a laundromat.
