Fisher Building

Very exciting news recently that new developers and the City of Detroit are organizing efforts to restore and modernize the Albert Kahn Building and the Fisher Building in order to make New Center a more inhabitable area for citizens and merchants. Bravo ! I thought for a long time that my favorite Detroit skyscraper was headed for bankruptcy auction and ultimate destruction via neglect.

Oh, but she does need some serious work. I am sure the usual infrastructural work must be needed, and certainly loads of masonry repairs on its exterior. It is the internal arcade that has been shredding my heart in the last few years though, as water pours through gaping wounds in the plaster, all but destroying certain parts of the hand painted ceilings. Here are some of the more dramatic areas of damage which must be repaired, and then painstakingly restored.

A Christmas display in the Fisher Building concourse of antique Thanksgiving Day Parade floats. Or I guess they would be the costumed people running along side the floats, whatever those are called.
