Just another little burnt crunchy treat on the EastSide
The most bitter irony of many of these burnt places is that I can almost always find an inoperative fire hydrant at the scene. Many times firefighters have to go off looking for operational plugs.
Store fire at Newport and Jefferson – I was alarmed at first when I heard the location because I was worried the Vanity Ballroom was going down. It turned out to be a check cashing convenience store across the street. The loss of the Vanity would have been a real drag, because it may still be salvageable. The loss of an actual functioning business however, is a real tragedy.
