Just one of the seemingly endless numbers of blown out old-school gas stations. Many have rather ornate ceramic tile roofing. (This isnt one of those examples) Currently there are so many abandoned properties which once were petroleum stations that there is now a moratorium on new build pumpers. To start a new station you have to rehab one of these sites – all of which probably have tanks below the ground which need to be removed and replaced.

  • A station with a basement? That seems uncommon.

  • the world’s first gas station was at the northeast corner of Fort & First St. according to “How Detroit Became the Automotive Capitol.” obviously it aint there anymore.

according to “Buildings of Michigan,” Paul’s Automative Car Wash was the first car wash in the world…used to be at the southeast corner of Fort & 2nd.
