all who wander are not lost

Theres this crazy abandoned house in South West Detroit, it looks like some artsy community group got the bright idea to put some kind of preachy social message art on this blown out thing.

This must have been done awhile ago, as all attention and maintenance of this installation has long since come and gone. Now it is only so much ironic junk littering the already abandoned and burned out house.

“What I learned, I learned from you.”

“Are you fighting for me, or against me ?”

Well, I think whoever it was that posed those idealized questions to the community got their answer in short order.

  • The Detroit Collaborative Design Center is a project of the U of D architecture school.

I like the boards. The signs though strike me as pretty heavy-handed and boring, almost like a charity campaign of some sort.

  • This house was part of the U.S. pavilion’s architecture exhibit at the 2008 Venice Biennale, perhaps the world’s premier showcase of contemporary art. Tyree Guyton’s Heidelberg work was also featured.

  • Try looking up the Detroit Collaborative Design Center, Fire Break house on You Tube there is a video about this.
