abandon all hope ye who enter here.
Will the last person to leave please turn out the lights.
So much for it shall rise from the ashes, huh?
Its a sad day…The result of 40 years of corruption & mismanagement.
Oh well, as long the sports teams are still there, I will still be going downtown & spend a little money there too.
It is not over; it is a new beginning. Without the corrupt bureaucratic apparatus in place here, maybe we will see something good happen. With where this city is at, things can only go up from here.
this news comes as a shocking surprise….to people who live in other regions.
i mean come on. for a few generations now, we have been growing up in the ruins of a dead metropolis, and we all have known that one day it would eventually heave its last sigh. just a matter of time.
well, it happened. so now we can move on. today is like every other day. city services still dont exist, and the city is crumbling onto our heads. but our daily lives will continue as before. only now that we’ve FINALLY hit rock bottom, there might be a better future on the way.
I was born in the early 60′s. I watch our country prosper. My parents did better every year. As a young adult of the 80′s, I watch wallstreet and heard the wall street types tell everyone how or pensions were overfunded and that money belonged to whomever could raid the accounts. Our politicians and corporate executives spent that money to finance whatever was on their minds without regard for the future. Now, every pension is broke. The people who paid into them are told that they were enver promised anything, so we don’t have to pay you. Will someone go back through the minutes fo these meetings and find the guys who agreed to spend the overfunded moneys. Let’s make them or their children pay back what belongs to the hard working people who are now being left behind. Thise politicians, corporate executuves, accoutants and lawyers took what wasn’t theirs, They replaced the money with worthless paper. The history is recorded. All someone needs to do is read it and point the fingers. Accountability needs to be brought to bare on the people who committed these crimes. The tax payers who will end up paying for this have a right to demand this accountability. Detriot is only the beginning of this. Watch and see.
It don’t exist
It don’t exist
(at least according to CNN)
I feel bad for the people who have to trudge through the legal issues and the lost money to lawyers. I also feel as if it will be a turning point for the city as something had to be force on the city for the finances to change. If the city was going to do something to correct the issue, it would have happened by now. How much farther down would you have to call the city in ashes? Last year’s arsons to burn out abandon home left ashes. We have the Packard and other sites which look like war pictures I look at in books from Europe during/after the World Wars.
The city Motto is ‘Speramus Meliora; Resurget Cineribus’, Latin for “We Hope For Better Things; It Shall Rise From the Ashes.” Just a suggestion: When (Yes I said WHEN) the city comes back, how about changing the Motto? Fact: I’m was not raised in Detroit, or even Michigan, but I’ve seen the spirit of this city. A better motto: “Though you knock us down, we will rise back up.” Other city’s would have given up, packed their bags, and left. History shows this over and over again, “It’s too tough here. Let’s move on!!” Detroit does not do that…… OK, maybe to the suburbs , but not pack up and go to another county, state, country…. Even the Packard show a testament to the city in its own way. 50+ years of inactive use, beaten by the weather and pests, yet it still stands. The only question now, which I see in dFunk’s pictures and writing all the time becomes what will be left of the history when the city returns?
Now before you start slicing and dicing what I just said, realize I’m a realist, not a dreamer. Detroit has already lost the some of its history in the bulldozing, fires, vandalism, and the decay caused both by Mother Nature and Earth biggest pests, humans. The real question….. What will be left to preserve when Detroit does come back? Will the only preservation left be photos of what was? Will the people stand up and take back the city or will the bureaucrats have their way? The only ones who can decide that are us who live, work, love or hate the city.
What do you say Detroit? Are you ready for the fight?
I completely agree with Historian.
The unspeakable crimes of politicians in Cleveland and its suburbs (where I lived for a considerable time, NYC, ditto), and now Detroit: these banksters, politicos, evil lawyers, have been paid top $$ for decades to rip off entire cities.
These people and their offspring, and their offspring need to be sent to jail, for eternity, for what they have foisted on millions of people. 1,000 bad eggs, over 50 years can completely destroy a city and its millions of inhabitants.
When I’m crowned Queen of the Universe, things will be different: HEADS WILL ROLL, and I will re-institute the guillotine!
The real shit hasn’t even started, but is about to do so; sooner rather than later.
Some bodies are going to get their come-uppance!
“What does not kill us, makes us stronger”……THIS should be Detroits motto! The city and its residents have bourne witness to both good and bad times. Every time the people have bounced back. I am certain this WILL happen again!
