The bank is foreclosing on the Detroit Science Center, which is 6 million dollars in debt from servicing a 1 million dollar construction loan.

Looks like a guy from Ann Arbor is going to take the Detroit Science Center off our hands. While the facility will remain, the institution we all know and love is now gone forever – sitting in heaven with the Michigan State Fair and the Children’s Museum. At least this one will have a new life in the private sector.

This piece of paper taped to the side of the building is the foreclosure notice from the bank. CLICK HERE to see the notice full size.

At the present time, federal funding restrictions preclude DPS from extending the museum’s services to non-DPS students or opening the museum to the general public. However, the district administration is exploring new partnerships and ways to raise funding that will allow the museum again to benefit all children.
